💳 Microcredit Program

Since 2012, St. Moses Children’s Care Centre & Community Development has promoted community development through Microcredit Initiatives. The program is designed as a practical strategy to address family challenges such as poverty, illness, and low involvement in community life.

It is especially focused on women and children, who are often the most vulnerable to social and economic hardship.

🎯 Objectives of the Microcredit Program

  • Strengthen families economically so they can support their children better
  • Reduce household poverty and vulnerability
  • Promote women’s empowerment and decision-making
  • Encourage savings culture and financial discipline
  • Provide capital for small businesses and family income activities

👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 How the Program Works

  • Women are organized into groups of 10–15 members
  • Each group is based on collective support and trust within the community
  • Groups actively participate in the design and monitoring of their activities

💰 Loans & Savings

  • Each member receives a small loan (initially up to UGX 200,000)
  • Repayment period: 6 months
  • Groups are encouraged to save monthly – this ensures long-term sustainability
  • Loan performance is measured by both repayment rates and achievement of group objectives

📈 Impact

  • To date, approximately 675 women are direct beneficiaries
  • Their families—around 2,700 children—benefit indirectly through better nutrition, health, education, and shelter
  • The program has led to improved self-reliance, economic activity, and dignity for participating households

🛠️ Skills & Capacity Building

Alongside access to credit, members are trained in:

  • Financial literacy and record-keeping
  • Entrepreneurship and small business skills
  • Family welfare, health, and nutrition
  • Gender-based violence awareness and prevention
  • Community participation and leadership

🌍 Why Microcredit Matters

By supporting women economically, we ensure:

  • Stronger families
  • Children’s school fees and healthcare are prioritized
  • Communities become more self-sustaining and less dependent on aid
